Angel John failed to bring in audiences because of its inappropriate timing of release

The movie was released during the mega movie "Pazhassi Raja" released and naturally the crowd was all attracted to that one. The result is that "Angel John" have been declared a holdover from day five at many centers. The Mohanlal starrer had created lots of expectations as well but failed. No other Mohanlal film in recent times has taken such a bad opening. The film on its second day fell flat, and in some smaller stations was 'Hold Over' . Angel John is one of the biggest ever failures from Mohanlal in recent times, only after to ‘Photographer’, which came out a couple of years ago
