Body cremated in front of panchayat office

ALUVA: A 85-year-old man who died early Wednesday, was cremated in front of a grama panchayat office here when a stay of execution cremations at a nearby cemetery.

The family of the deceased wanted the funeral to be conducted on the Kuruppintekulam cemetery where the body was first taken.

However, the cremation could not be performed if two persons residing within a 50 meter radius of the area had received a stay from the Kerala High Court.

The body was then taken to the Kunnukara Gram Panchayat office where the pyre was lit and the body cremated.

The Revenue Department has decided to acquire ownership of the two persons to the problem. Purchase procedure, the final stage, a panchayat secretary said.
