Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil hospitalized

Kochi: The Major Arch Bishop of Syro Malabar Church Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil has been admitted hospital following a cardiac arrest. The doctors have administered angioplasty on him and his condition is reported to be stable. He is 85.
The cardinal was admitted in Lissie Hospital on Monday following respiratory problems. He also suffered a massive heart attack before reaching the hospital, the sources said, adding the doctors immediately performed angioplasty to remove a block.
Vithayathil, who is also the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India, was attending the Permanent Synod of the Bishops at St Thomas Mount in Kakkanad when he felt dizzy.
