Quick register marriages no more valid

Monday, 09.11.2009, 02:17am (GMT)

TVM: The permission granted by the govt. allowing a man and woman to be registered in marriage in any register office has been now cancelled. All what they had to do here was to sign in a 50 rupee stamp paper. Such documents were already registered with the condition that they would not be considered as marriages and that none of them would get any protection of a proper marriage. However the act was called as register marriages.
But it has been realized that many girls were taken for a ride through this concession. Most of the girls cheated through such marriages never knew that they were signing in an invalid document which had no legal stand whatsoever.
A girl married in this manner would never get a protection of a wife. Due to the same fact many men who married in this manner would discard their wives fearlessly and unilaterally. With the new law a marriage can be registered only after giving a notice prior to 30 days before the marriage. So conducting a marriage all on a sudden remains invalid.
