Private bus operators planning a strike on August 19

Sunday, 12.07.2009, 04:39pm (GMT)

Thrissur: The private bus operators in the state have decided to go on strike on August 19 in protest against the hike in diesels prizes. They now demand a hike in bus fare to meet the rising prices in petroleum products and other things.
Federation president, A K Abdulla, told reporters it was essential to hike the bus fares and review the rate of concession to students following the increase in the prices of the petroleum products. The price hike for diesel was Rs 2.24 paise per litre.
They have pressed the authorities to raise the minimum bus fare to Rs. 5 from the existing Rs3.50 and an increase of five paisa per km. Though the government had assured to revise the concessional rate to students several times, it had not yet been put into operation. The students pay only 12 per cent of the ordinary bus fare and it was high time it was revised.
