Self Financing college: CPI demands new regulation

TVM: The CPI has criticized the pact reached between the govt. and the Self-Financing Colleges and said that the only way to end the `anarchy' in the Self-Financing Colleges sector was to ensure that only government fee was collected from students selected on merit.
The CPI alleged that although the govt. had issued a directive on 50:50 merit-management ratio, the fee structure varied from Colleges to Colleges. The existing act on SFC was not adequate to make managements pay heed to the government's directives, the resolution said and wanted the government to think of introducing a fresh legislation to protect the interests of students.
The party demanded that the legislation should be based on the recent Supreme Court order stipulating that 50 percent seats in SFCs should be filled from the merit list.
